The Motor Vehicle Administration Agency (MVAA) of Lagos State Ministry of Transportation like similar Agencies and or Ministry in other States of the Federation normally designed Vehicle Registration Number Plates (here after referred to as Number Plates) to be marked with Numbers designated to different Local Government Areas in the State.
These are referred to as Standard Number Plate (others like Re-Registration Number Plates similar to the latter are not always available these days).
Also, there are special and customized Number Plates for Government use as well as for individuals that made special request to have the customized ones specially designed for them at a special price.
But in practice, above does not mean that the Number plates are used on vehicles (during Auto Registration) according to the resident Local Government Areas of the Vehicle Owners.
Our article observes the preference of different vehicle owners on these Number Plates with the quest on which Number plate category should be adjudged to be the best.
THE IKEJA AND OTHER HIGHLY ESTEEMED L. G. A. NUMBER PLATE
The requests of several clients while booking (contracting us) for Auto Registration of their newly purchased vehicles in Lagos, Nigeria revealed that about 3 out of every 5 clients prefer a Number Plate marked with either Ikeja, Lekky, or any of those Local Government Areas associated with the rich, affluence and very high class of the populace in the State.
And some are willing to pay more to have these Number Plates.
Let me confess that I got influenced with their preference thinking that such Number Plates should be the best.
THE SPECIAL MEMORY / EVENT REMINDER NUMBER PLATE
Meanwhile, to some other clients, it is a Number Plate that reflects their birthday or that of their loved one, wedding anniversary, and or any special event that is considered dear to them.
Some still are just satisfied with a Number Plate that can easily be remembered like ABC 555 CD, EFG 111 HI, AAA22 BN and on the list goes.
THE CUSTOMIZED NUMBER PLATE AND THE NOT BAD / JUST NORMAL NUMBER PLATES
What about those that will desire the Number Plate to be customized to reveal their personality, their position in the society, and more? You must have probably seen Number Plates like these in vehicles: BALE 1 OF KETU, HON. JIDE O5, CHIEF SPEAKER 444, etc.
Another set of people though will be happy to have Ikeja Number Plate and the likes do not really mind. All they want is for their vehicle to be registered within the shortest time possible irrespective of the number Plate used.
GIVING THE BEST SUPPOSED BUT NOT APPRECIATED AS ANTICIPATED
We could recall how our Business Partner went through thick and thin to secure an Ikeja Number Plate for a Bank staff, at higher procurement cost but not billing the customer more than the normal Auto Registration fee.
He was expecting this customer to be grateful only to find out that to the customer, it seemingly made no difference.
THE NOT SO DESIRED LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREAS NUMBER PLATES
It is worthy to that some clients will highly disappointed if you should choose Number Plate whose numbers are marked with some Local Government Areas in Lagos believed to be dominated by the poor, average and the low class of the populace in the state.
Even people living in these Local Government Areas may still not appreciate these Number Plates.
Others as earlier mentioned would however not mind which Local Government Area is marked on a Number Plate.
Some could not even identify which Local Government Area is marked on a given Number Plate, hence also will not mind if used for their vehicle registration.
